The Price-Hike Countdown

A real deadline, posted by your advocates rather than only by you. Urgency plus a warm referral.

What it is

Most people who intend to register do it at the last possible moment, which for a lot of them is never. A price deadline is the standard fix, and it works. What most events miss is who should announce it.

When you announce the deadline it is a promotion. When a sponsor, partner or past attendee announces it, it is advice. The second one converts better and reaches audiences your email list does not.

Timing: A week before each price step, then 48 hours, then the day itself.

Why it works

  • Deadlines convert fence-sitters now instead of theoretically later.
  • A referral carrying urgency outperforms a referral without it.
  • Sponsors and partners are happy to post it - it makes them look useful to their own audience.
  • It gives you a legitimate reason to post repeatedly without it reading as spam.

How to run it

  1. 1

Set a real deadline and honour it

If prices do not actually rise, the second one you run will not work. Publish the price ladder up front.

  2. 2

Build a countdown asset with the date on it

One creative, dated, reusable by everyone. Update it for each step of the ladder.

  3. 3

Send it to your advocate roster, not just your list

Speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, partners, past attendees. All of them at once, a week before the date.

  4. 4

    Send a 48-hour and a same-day reminder

The last 48 hours before a price step routinely carry a large share of the whole window's registrations.

  5. 5

    Track by advocate

Same tracked links as everything else, so you learn which groups respond to urgency.

What you need

  • A published price ladder with dates
  • A dated countdown creative
  • Your advocate roster and tracked links

What to measure

  • Registrations in the final 48 hours vs the prior week
  • Advocates who posted the deadline
  • Registrations per advocate group
