Tracked to referral links

GITEX Kenya 2026 is the African edition of the global GITEX technology franchise, bringing together the continent's tech community, startups, investors, and policymakers in Nairobi.

We ran an eleven-week advocacy poster campaign across attendee, speaker, and partner segments. With personalised creatives, referral tracking, and a promo code integration, the campaign resulted in over 2,148 tickets sold directly through poster referrals, generating $4,941 in attributed revenue.

The Challenge

Outbound Alone Can't Buy Community Trust

As a first-time regional edition with no prior show history, the event had no returning audience, no local brand recognition, and no existing community to reactivate.

That made the usual playbook insufficient. Email campaigns and paid social reach people who are already warm. They struggle to move someone who has never heard of the show and has no existing reason to trust it. In Kenya's tech ecosystem, that trust lives in peer networks: a colleague publicly committing to attend carries more weight than any ad spend. The real challenge was building a system to generate that peer endorsement at scale, in an eleven-week window, with a way to measure exactly what it was worth.

Without it, the team faced a ceiling on registrations that outbound channels alone could not break through.

The Solution

Personalised Posters, Referral Tracking, and a Reason to Act

Posters for attendees, speakers, and partners

Premagic deployed personalised advocacy poster campaigns across three participant segments: attendees, speakers, and partners. Each poster was automatically generated with the participant's name, photo, company logo, and event details.

Every shared post embedded a unique referral tracking link, giving the organising team complete visibility into which advocates were driving clicks, registrations, and ticket sales, in real time through the Premagic dashboard.

Targeted email campaigns

Targeted email nudges ran throughout the eleven-week campaign window, with subject lines and send timing optimised for engagement. Content was refreshed regularly to stay aligned with the event's broader marketing calendar, keeping advocate posts timely rather than repetitive.

Every send carried the recipient's own poster — their name, their photo, their company logo. Not a campaign asset they had to adapt, but a post already about them.

Promotional code

The pivotal change came in the final three weeks. Premagic integrated a 50% discount code directly into the poster creatives, giving every advocate something tangible to offer their network.

Each shared poster carried the promo code alongside a direct link to purchase a discounted summit and conference pass, turning every share into a personal invitation with a clear financial reason to act. A simultaneous creative refresh brought poster designs to their most visually compelling point of the campaign. The result was immediate and measurable.

The Results

Peer Referrals That Converted Into Paid Tickets

The campaign drove 2,148 tickets sold directly through Premagic posters, generating $4,941 in attributed revenue, delivering a positive ROI before factoring in another 5,756 indirect ticket sales attributed to the campaign.

Beyond direct sales, the campaign captured 21,617 registrations through poster widgets and 5,551 advocacy posts from attendees, landing a strong 16.1% advocacy rate. Speakers and partners delivered noticeably higher referral efficiency than attendee segments.

As a result of the promo code, $1,860 was generated in attributed revenue — more than triple the highest-performing week before the change. The final three weeks of the campaign combined drove 71% of total attributed revenue for the entire eleven-week run.

If you are organising a regional conference or trade show where ticket sales depend on community buy-in, this is what you can expect from a Premagic advocacy campaign. Your registrant list becomes a referral engine. Every person who signs up can generate personalised content, share it with one click, and drive trackable ticket sales from their own network. You see in real time which advocates are converting, which segments are performing, and where to focus your next nudge. And when you add a promotional incentive at the right moment, conversion rates can jump overnight — the way they did for GITEX Kenya in week nine.

Why It Worked

A Conversion Mechanism, Scroll-Stopping Creative, and a Receptive Market

Three things drove the result.

The promo code gave the campaign a conversion mechanism it had previously lacked. Advocates sharing a poster with a discount code embedded are giving their network a reason to act, not just a reason to notice. When both the conversion rate and the value per converting post increased simultaneously in the final three weeks, the data confirmed this was a genuine lift rather than natural pre-event urgency.

The creative quality did the heavy lifting between the share and the click. Scroll-stopping poster designs gave each post enough stopping power to compete in a busy LinkedIn feed. Regular refreshes meant the creative never went stale across an eleven-week window.

The market played to Premagic's strengths. African audiences demonstrate consistently stronger advocacy behaviour across Premagic's event portfolio. Community ties, a high willingness to share, and strong peer trust in professional networks meant that Kenya was structurally well-suited to an advocacy-led campaign. When the infrastructure is right and the market is receptive, peer-driven ticket sales compound in a way that paid channels cannot replicate.

The Insight

Advocacy Is a Live Channel, Not a Set-and-Forget Activation

GITEX Kenya 2026 adds an important data point to how Premagic thinks about advocacy campaign design. Starting early matters. Refreshing creative regularly matters.

The lesson for event organisers: advocacy campaigns are not a set-and-forget activation. The teams that get the strongest results treat them as a live channel — adjusting creative, adding conversion incentives, and timing nudges to match the event's marketing rhythm. GITEX Kenya showed what that approach delivers when it is done well.
